SENIOR LIVING FACTS

• In St. Louis City and County, nearly 14% of older adults rely on family, friends, and public transportation to make necessary trips to medical appointments and other places.

• Some 58% of older adults in the St. Louis metropolitan area require at least minor home repair or adaptation to remain independently living in their home.

• Research from the National Institute of Mental Health shows that providing social supports to a depressed patient as well as the patient’s caregiver can reduce depression by one-half.

• In a 2003 study by the Administration on Aging and the Corporation for National Service, older adults who volunteer are physically more healthy and agile, more cognitively alert and less likely to suffer from memory loss as they age.

WELCOME TO MOAR
Metropolitan Older Adult Resources
Remaining active and healthy is the goal for seniors involved with MOAR (Metropolitan Older Adult Resources) for Life. At MOAR for Life, we work with older adults to maintain independence in all areas of life—living safely at home, leading spiritually and physically active lives, and remaining socially engaged in their community. MOAR for Life builds on a successful, faith-based model developed by the SGSM Network, which has served the older adult population in St. Louis since 2001.
